I am so proud that Bold Ambitions: the Campaign for Dalhousie has come to a successful conclusion, raising $280 million. At the heart of this campaign was a clear desire to establish a solid foundation for growth, forward-thinking change and significant impact. With the generosity of many, we have done this – outpacing even our very ambitious expectations.
Perhaps the greatest single success is the extraordinary amount that has been raised for new scholarships – $75 million – that impact has already been felt by many students.
The campaign has enriched our offerings in so many ways. New infrastructure such as the Wallace McCain Student Learning Commons will provide dynamic spaces for idea-sharing. Enhanced programming such as the new School of Performing Arts and the College of Sustainability offers a broader learning experience. The new Centre for Student Leadership fosters student volunteerism and professional development. And there are many more opportunities for academic chairs, internships and international student travel.
Twenty thousand people gave to this campaign, many of them for the first time. Dalhousie's faculty, staff and alumni stepped up for the cause. The private sector and government contributed to many different campaign priorities. And our students pledged support, understanding that investment now means great things for the future.
The campaign's tremendous success came as a result of the collaboration of people within our region, across the country and around the world. With their help, we're building a better, stronger Dalhousie and creating opportunities for our students that they will take with them as they make their mark on the world.
Indeed, our Bold Ambitions have brought about extraordinary change. And, without a doubt, the spirit of philanthropy is alive and well at Dalhousie.
Thank you for your support.
President, Dalhousie University
